Mini cyclamen: Diseases and Remedies (3-minute Read)

NOTE: The terms Mini cyclamen and Cyclamen persicum are identical in this text; in reality, Cyclamen persicum is Mini cyclamen’s biological word.

There is the same eye-catching foliage and lovely heart-shaped flowers as a florist’s cyclamen, but in a miniature package. The rounded, dark green leaves with gray-green markings stand out against the flowers in pink, red, and white. They are famous gifts for the winter holidays because of their winter blooms. Cyclamen persicum is toxic to animals and humans.

Warning: Mini cyclamen (or Cyclamen persicum) has been reported to be toxic to Humans and Pets.

Why does my Mini cyclamen have gray mold spots?

Gray mold spots are a specific fungus that regularly harms flowers and spreads swiftly. If you notice any brown (or gray) spots, this fungus is probably to cause. You risk your plant dying if you ignore these warning indications.

Our Solution

The answer is obvious once you recognize the cause of the problem. Most frequently, it results from the Cyclamen persicum being overwatered. We strongly advise you to remove the damaged plant parts, cut off the diseased roots and leaves, and then repot your plant in a new container with sterile potting soil.

Why does my Mini cyclamen have leaf spots?

Leaf This type of disease is one of the most frustrating for Mini cyclamen owners, we give you all the leads to spot and save your plants that present symptoms such as leaves that suddenly change color, or wilt/droop.

Why are my Mini cyclamen leaves turning yellow?

In the world of horticulture, yellowing leaves are undoubtedly the most common problem. The two main causes of this problem are overwatering and a lack of nutrition.

Whether you think your plants are getting too much water, cut back on how often you water them, and take the following measures to see if they might be nutritionally deficient:

Here are some indicators of yellowing on the Cyclamen persicum brought on by its numerous flaws:

  • The first symptom of a magnesium deficiency is yellow patches between leaf veins on elder leaves. The leaf’s core turns yellow while the veins stay green. The edges of the leaf yellow last.
  • Iron deficiency also shows as yellowing between leaf veins, but it hits young leaves on plant tops and branch tips first.
  • Sulfur shortage first affects the youngest leaves, turning them entirely yellow.
  • Potassium deficiency shows itself when leaf edges turn bright yellow, but the inner leaf stays green. Older leaves show symptoms first, and leaf edges soon turn brown.
  • Nitrogen deficiency shows up as a general yellowing. Older, inner leaves turn yellow first. As it progresses, yellowing moves outward, eventually reaching young leaves, too.

Our Solution

According to the symptoms mentioned above, you just have to act accordingly. You can reduce your watering frequency, or fix a deficiency in Potassium, or Nitrogen, for that, you just have to buy a special soil for your deficiency, a consultant in a gardening store will know perfectly well how to inform you.

Is my Mini cyclamen sunburned?

It is simple to determine whether your Mini cyclamen (your Cyclamen persicum) has sunburn. Your plant will change color in this instance, beginning to turn yellow or white, much like it does on us.

Sunburned

The leaves of your Mini cyclamen can also change color in case it gets too much water or not enough light, as we saw above.

However, there is a way to tell if it is sunburn; look at the bottom of the yellow leaves, the ones that have a shaded area closer to the root, if this area stays greener, it is probably sunburned, not something else.

Why are my Mini cyclamen leaves turning brown?

Most of the time, leaves of a Mini cyclamen that turn brown is a sign that your plant has been sunburned, it has probably been exposed to too much direct sunlight. Don’t panic, your plant probably won’t die from this, but its growth will take a hit.

Should I leave my Cyclamen persicum in direct sunlight?

No! If your Cyclamen persicum (or Mini cyclamen) has the symptoms described above, don’t leave it in direct sunlight, that’s the reason why your Mini cyclamen is in such a state!

Our Solution

As stated in the paragraph above, the cure is straightforward: simply position your plant’s Mini cyclamen so that it is out of direct sunlight. With proper watering and this method, your plant should quickly come back to life.

Why are my Cyclamen persicum leaves drooping or wilting ?

This typically occurs when your Cyclamen persicum gets dehydrated. Large plants are more at risk since they naturally require more water than smaller plants.

Drooping

Whether your Cyclamen persicum plant’s pot appears light, the soil and roots are likely fairly dry and need water, so you can readily tell if it needs to be hydrated.

Our Solution

If the soil in the container is completely dry, you must first moisten it to guarantee that your plant’s roots absorb the benefits of the water. One common mistake is to drown the Mini cyclamen right away after a dry time because you think it needs a lot of water.

This is true, but the easiest way to end it is to give too much water at once. Instead, you should water the soil properly, returning to a peaceful watering rhythm.

Caring Tips for Cyclamen persicum

Water Occasionally

Water is essential to the survival of your plant, however, it is important to balance the rate of watering. As we explained above, overwatering could have fatal consequences for your Cyclamen persicum.

You can tell if your plant needs water by touching the soil; if it still feels damp, it’s usually preferable to wait a few more days.

Always keep temperatures stable

It is also a good idea to keep your Cyclamen persicum at a stable temperature (especially if it is kept indoors!). At GreenShack, we generally recommend staying in the 65 and 85 degrees F range. Of course, do not place your Cyclamen persicum near a source of hot (or cold) air such as A/C units, radiators or the like.

Keep your Mini cyclamen Dust-Free

This one concerns indoor plants, just like on your furniture, dust is also deposited on the leaves of your indoor plants, the problem is that it can prevent them from receiving the necessary light, this would slow down (or even stop) the photosynthesis process, and eventually, they would lose their colors.

For your Mini cyclamen, this would be a true descent into hell, and it would also appease the pests.

To remove the dust, gently rub the plant’s leaves with a microfiber cloth. Dust can be removed more easily with a damp cloth, but stay away from corrosive substances like rubbing alcohol!

Keep drainage in mind

If you have a tendency to overwater, you need to keep an eye on your drainage, we advise you to opt for a pot with drainage holes if it is not already the case and a saucer.

In the meantime, if you don’t have holes in your pots, you can add volcanic rocks (or any rocks with holes) at the bottom of your pot, this way it will create a channel so that the water doesn’t stay in your skin too much (to avoid that roots start to rot!)
